Our skin is the largest organ in our body. It’s imperative that we take care of it the right way so that it can continue to protect us long-term. Our bodies were built to make good use of the sun. Therefore, our skin uses the sunlight to create Vitamin D, which is very important in our bone function. The suns rays is also something that we enjoy laying under. During summer you’ll find many people working on their tan and enjoying the warmth that the sun brings.
What’s sad to say is that there is a downside to it all. According to Medline Plus, the ultraviolet rays that the sun gives off can cause major damage to the skin. Some sunlight is good but it’s when you overdo it that causes the problems. The outer layer of our skin has melanin. That’s what protects our skin from the ultraviolet rays. When you tan the skin will produce more melanin and darken, that’s when you realize you have a tan. As time goes by there are new cells that are formed, and your skin will lighten again.
While the ultraviolet rays can do some good for you, too much of it can burn the skin. This will reduce its elasticity and cause premature aging. If you have fair skin, you aren’t as protected from the sun. This is why you should make sure that you apply more protecting before spending a good amount of time out in the sun. if you don’t protect your kin overtime you’ll notice:
- Wrinkles
- Lines
- Sagging Skin
- Dark Spots
- Freckles
- Leathery-looking Skin
It doesn’t stop there. One of the biggest long-term effects of ultraviolet rays is that it can bring out issues like pre-cancerous and cancerous lesions. That’s known as skin cancer. Not only that but you could also develop sun poising. Yes, it can be as scary as it sounds. This can happen just after one sunburn! For a several hours you can experience things from pain and tingling all the way to a fever, swelling, and headaches.
Too much sun is going to affect not only your health but also your skins appearance. Too much of it will bring out spots, blotches, wrinkles, and even new moles. The question a lot of people have is if you can reverse some of the effects that it has brought on. This depends on how severe the damage is out there are some practices that have worked in the past. One of them is exfoliation. This is a great way to remove dead skin cells that have built up over time.
Another thing is Topical creams. A lot of people try to stay away from creams because they feel as if it may not even work. The problem with that is that it will take some time to set in and do its job. Patience is everything. Another great thing is to make sure that you continue to protect your skin in the future. This will help make sure you don’t get and more skin damage once you’re out in the sun.
