Botox®

BOTOX® injections in Central Florida by YMD for Crow’s Feet, Forehead Lines, Glabella (the 11’s) and more!

For patients in Winter Park and the greater Orlando, FL area, Botox® is a non-evasive yet highly effective way to address visible signs of aging – including fine lines and wrinkles. Botox may also be used to address a number of other concerns such as chronic sweating, migraines, and neck pain.

During her fellowship with the nationally known facial plastic surgeon, John P Fezza MD, in Sarasota FL, Dr. Yeilding conducted a complex clinical study comparing BOTOX® to an alternative botulinum toxin treatment. Dr. Yeilding brings a deep knowledge of facial anatomy, an advanced gentle injection technique and a total commitment to personal patient care to her role as a professional provider of BOTOX®.

What Does Botox® Treat?

Unfortunately, we all age as the years pass. It’s a fact of life that we cannot change. We may begin to notice the lines around our mouths, the smile and frown lines and, of course, the 11’s on our forehead. This can impact our self-esteem and confidence. Fortunately, BOTOX® was developed by ophthalmologist medical researchers to address both cosmetic and medical concerns.

In the hands of an experienced professional, BOTOX® is an extremely effective and reliable solution to address the following issues:

How Can I Prepare for Botox® Injections?

Using a fine needle, Dr. Yeilding injects BOTOX® into precise muscle locations without the need for anesthesia. The treatment is usually completed in about 15 minutes in our Orlando office. By acting directly on the neuromuscular synapse, BOTOX® reduces muscle contraction and the wrinkles that go with it. Although the effect is not permanent, it typically lasts 3 to 4 months.

BOTOX® has the ability to halt muscle contractions.  In effect, it causes a type of temporary muscle paralysis. BOTOX® in Orlando has been seen as an effective neuromodulator for aging skin and a way to temporarily improve the appearance of moderate-to-severe “frown lines” between the eyebrows (glabellar lines). When underlying facial muscles don’t contract, the overlying skin remains smooth and unwrinkled.

Meet YMD's Expert

Dr. Ruth Hill Yeilding

Double Board Certified Facial Plastic Surgeon

Does it really matter who your BOTOX® provider is? Absolutely! People often make the mistake of choosing a BOTOX® provider solely on price.  However, this can be a big and costly mistake. At YMD Facial Plastic Surgery, Dr. Yeilding performs all filler and BOTOX® injection procedures. Additionally, Dr. Yeilding is a board-certified facial plastic surgeon.  During her intensive fellowship training in oculoplastics and facial plastic surgery, she conducted a complex study that compared BOTOX® to other alternative botulinum toxin treatments. This means that, unlike many low-cost BOTOX® providers, Dr. Yeilding’s extensive knowledge of the complex human facial anatomy and an advanced injection technique provide the most pleasing and natural outcomes. *

While a scientist in the late 1970’s for Smith Kettlewell Eye Research Institute, California Ophthalmologist Dr. Alan B Scott performed the first FDA clinical studies using botulinum toxin in humans. He published his work in the Transactions of the American Ophthalmological Society journal in 1981.  His pioneering research showed safe and effective results to relax the eye muscles that caused strabismus (misalignment of both eyes- often appearing as crossed eyes, or one eye turned out).  Allergan, Inc. purchased Dr. Scott’s company and obtained the first FDA approvals in 1988 for the substance that was renamed BOTOX® to be used for the treatment of strabismus and blepharospasm (eyelid spasms).  Another Ophthalmologist, Dr. Jean Carruthers, was conducting a BOTOX® blepharospasm study when she accidentally discovered the first cosmetic benefit of BOTOX®.  During her research, she found her study patients had reduced glabellar frown lines. Dr. Carruthers went on to publish a large body of work pioneering the use of BOTOX® Cosmetic that included defining the scientific methods for assessing cosmetic efficacy. In Dr. Yeilding’s clinical study, she used the Carruthers methodology and validated grading scales to assess patient results for glabellar lines, forehead lines and crow’s feet.

Dr. Yeilding’s goal is to be the #1 Quality BOTOX® provider in the Orlando area. The majority of Dr. Yeilding’s patients are repeat patients, and they receive very competitive pricing because of their loyalty.  Combined with the Brilliant Distinctions Rewards Program from Allergan, the YMD staff will make sure your credits are promptly posted.  Dr. Yeilding’s patients receive the highest value BOTOX® treatment in Orlando.

Frequently Asked Questions

There are many different types of wrinkles we acquire with age.  The details of which type you may have is specific to each patient.  While all patients are different, almost every patient seems to have at least ONE of the issues above. During your consultation, Dr. Yeilding will assess all of the anatomical elements- fat pad position and size, muscle tone, muscle movement, skin thinning, and skin laxity (stretching). For patients with glabellar lines (the 11’s), forehead lines, crow’s feet or frown/laugh lines around the mouth, Dr. Yeilding will determine whether BOTOX® is the right choice for you.

Based on her detailed assessment, Dr. Yeilding will carefully create a custom treatment plan that considers your age and aesthetic goals. When there is more than one issue to consider, Dr. Yeilding will advise you to begin with the issue that can achieve the most with a single treatment. Then the patient can evaluate how the results feel over time. Most of Dr. Yeilding’s patients tend to think long-term, and many receive multiple treatments over time. Although some patients may want to proceed more aggressively than others, Dr. Yeilding will restrict the scope of treatments to yield conservative but effective aesthetic enhancement. Knowing “when to say no”, verses “doing a little more” is one of Dr. Yeilding’s guiding principles. A patients’ well-being always comes first for Dr. Yeilding.

The most interesting thing about Botulinum A Toxin (BTX) is that, in its undiluted and natural form, it is a potent poison.  It is a neurotoxic protein that is produced by the clostridium botulinum bacterium.  If ingested by humans, BTX can cause a life-threatening type of food poisoning, called botulism. However, in its commercially refined and purified configuration, BTX, better known as “BOTOX®”, it is a useful drug that doctors employ as an effective treatment for many different types of health problems.

Approved as a muscle relaxant by the federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 1989, BOTOX® was originally used to treat facial spasms, blepharospasms (eyelid spasms), the muscle spasms that cause strabismus (crossed eyes), and cervical dystonia (a neurological movement disorder). BOTOX® works by blocking the release of acetylcholine, the neurotransmitter that the brain sends to a muscle, signaling it to contract. When a targeted muscle is no longer receiving the body’s normal electrical/chemical stimulus to contract, formerly uncontrollable spasms are reduced or eliminated.

Over time, physicians began to administer BOTOX® for several other medical conditions, including:

  • Overactive bladder and urge incontinence
  • Chronic migraine headaches
  • Upper limb spasticity as a result of cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, stroke, brain trauma or spinal cord injury
  • Excessive sweating
  • Spasmodic dysphonia – an unusual condition that causes difficulty speaking smoothly

BOTOX® is a safe and non-evasive procedure that can offer its users a more youthful appearance without surgical intervention or long recovery periods. In fact, a typical procedure lasts only ten minutes. The treatment is injected into the muscle one to three times with a very fine needle. Minor side effects are rare, and may include a slight redness or swelling at the injection site(s) that normally diminish very quickly. Following treatment, visible results of BOTOX® Cosmetic are usually noticed within 3–5 days. The maximum benefits will be reached within one or two weeks.

A single treatment usually lasts about three months. The effects fade gradually.  But since it can be repeated indefinitely with no lasting harm, a patient can return for treatments several times a year. However, BOTOX® should not be used during pregnancy, while nursing, or in combination with certain medications.

Before having a BOTOX® procedure, consult with Dr. Yeilding about any of the following you might have taken recently:

  • Blood-thinning drugs
  • Antibiotics by injection
  • Muscle relaxants
  • Allergy or cold medicine
  • Sleep medicine

Any effects at the injection sites are typically gone within minutes, certainly within an hour. Essentially, there is no recovery time for most patients. Occasionally there may be slight bruising, but this is rare with Dr. Yeilding’s gentle injection technique. Although the full effect of BOTOX® appears in 2 weeks after treatment, Dr. Yeilding has found that her patients enjoy significant benefit by day 3. *

Dr. Yeilding is looking forward to meeting you!
