IPL (Intense Pulsed Light)

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) is a non-invasive skin rejuvenation treatment that uses broad-spectrum light to target pigmentation, redness, and sun damage, while stimulating collagen production for a more even, youthful complexion. Improvements are typically seen after 1–2 sessions, with optimal results developing over a series of treatments spaced weeks apart. Minimal downtime is expected, and results can last several months with proper skincare and sun protection.

Why You Should Go for Intense Pulsed Light?

Candidates
Patients looking to treat sun damage (brown spots, sun spots, freckles), hyperpigmentation, rosacea or redness, broken capillaries or spider veins, fine lines and mild wrinkles, uneven skin tone or texture, and acne or acne scars. This treatment works best on Fitzpatrick skin types I-III.

Treatment Process
New patients will need a consultation prior to having an IPL laser session. At the consultation, the goals, post-treatment process, maintenance of IPL, and number of sessions will be discussed. The day of the first IPL session, the skin will be cleansed and prepped. Then the handheld IPL device will be moved across the skin. Then the post-care treatment will be discussed and the next appointment will be booked if necessary.

Downtime & Post-Treatment Care

Day 1: Redness, mild swelling, and warmth, like a sunburn, are common, and brown spots may darken. Apply a cool compress 10-15 minutes at a time, use a gently moisturizer, and use a broad-spectrum sunscreen. Avoid makeup, sun exposure, hot showers, saunas, heavy sweating, and skincare with ingredients like retinoids, acids, and exfoliants.

Day 2: Redness may persist and dark spots may look more pronounced, this is a normal part of pigment coming to the surface. Continue moisturizing and using gentle cleansing products. Do not scrub the skin. Reapply sunscreen every 2-3 hours if outdoors.

Day 3: Dark spots may begin to flake or crust slightly and skin may feel dry or tight. Let the skin exfoliate naturally, DO NOT pick or scratch at flaking or peeling skin.

Keep using mild cleanser and moisturizer and continue strict sun protection.

Days 4-7: Flaking and shedding of pigmented areas will occur, skin will look more radiant and even. Continue with gentle skincare, avoid exfoliating brushes and scrubs. Makeup can be resumed if the skin is intact.

Day 8 and After: Results become more noticeable with clearer, brighter skin. Any redness should be gone and pigment spots will lighten or disappear. Use daily sunscreen diligently to prevent new pigmentation. Skincare regimen including active ingredients can be continued at the discretion of your skincare professional. Consider a series of treatments (usually 3–6, spaced 3–4 weeks apart).

Frequently Asked Questions

IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light, a non-invasive treatment that uses broad-spectrum light energy to target pigment, redness, and signs of aging. Unlike a laser, which uses a single wavelength, IPL emits multiple wavelengths to treat a range of skin concerns simultaneously.

A typical series includes 3–5 treatments spaced 3–4 weeks apart for best results. Maintenance treatments every 6–12 months help keep pigmentation and redness under control.

Many patients notice a brighter, more even complexion after just one session, with continued improvement over several weeks. Best results are seen after completing a full series.

You may experience slight redness and swelling, similar to a mild sunburn. These effects usually subside within a few hours to a couple of days. Most people can return to their regular activities immediately.

Side effects are generally minimal. Some may experience temporary redness or swelling. Following post-treatment care instructions helps minimize any risks.

Avoid sun exposure and certain skincare products before your session. A consultation with our specialists will provide personalized pre-treatment guidelines.

Sessions typically last between 20 to 45 minutes, depending on the area being treated.
